Despite the worst of the conflict being over, armed factions remain prevalent across the country. Outside of Bangui, tensions within or between armed groups have sporadically broken out into armed clashes, such as seen these past few months in Bambari, Kaga Bandoro, Bouar, Boda, Batangafo, NâÃÂÃÂdele, MbrÃÂès and Bangui. As a result, tens of thousands have been driven from their homes or caught up in a cycle of repeated displacements.

Despite strong international commitment to address the crisis in CAR, the peacekeeping mission has been running on a shoe-string: under-resourced and âÃÂàat times âÃÂàoverwhelmed by the sheer scale of civilian protection needs. Hopes remain high that the MINUSCA force (United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic), given sufficient resources, is helping to address this imbalance, but the demobilisation, disarmament, and reintegration process is slow, and violence remains prevalent across different parts of the country.
