Brooklyn synth/post-punk duo The Vacant Lots are today releasing a Cold Cave remix of ‘Into The Depths’, originally lifted from their highly acclaimed third album ‘Interzone’ which is getting its second pressing via Fuzz Club Records. Released last Summer and long sold-out, the ‘Interzone’ LP saw glowing praise from Iggy Pop and Henry Rollins (who played the band on their 6 Music and KCRW shows, respectively), Uncut, Loud & Quiet, Brooklyn Vegan, Classic Rock and numerous others. With the second pressing out February 19th, you can stream ‘Into The Depths (Cold Cave Deep Speed Remix)’ here: fuzzclub.lnk.to/intothedepths
Talking about the remix, Jared Artaud says: “It’s truly an honor to collaborate with Wesley Eisold. Not only is Cold Cave one of my favorite bands, but he’s one of my favorite poets. I can count on one hand the contemporary bands whose music I find inspiring. Cold Cave is the ultimate. It’s music that cuts through the bullshit and strikes the soul. Brian and I wanted to have just one remix to go with Interzone, and there was no one else we wanted to work with more than Cold Cave. I love what Wesley did to the track – pushing it to the extremes, into some insanely ordered chaos zone.”
Uninhibited by the limitations of two people and continuing their mission of “minimal means maximum effect,” on the ‘Interzone’ LP The Vacant Lots’ Jared Artaud and Brian MacFadyen create an industrial amalgam of icy electronics and cold beats with detached vocals and hard-hitting guitars. The album creates order from chaos and delves into escapism, isolation, relationship conflicts, and decay.
With nods to William S. Burroughs and Joy Division’s song of the same name, “Interzone is like existing between two zones,” Jared says. “Interzone doesn’t mean one thing. It can mean different things to different people depending on their interpretation. Working on this album was a constant struggle reconciling internal conflicts with all that’s going on externally in the world. Interzone, in one word, is duality.” The second pressing comes on 180g ultra-clear vinyl with black splatter and includes the Cold Cave remix of ‘Into The Depths’ as a bonus 7”.
Since they formed in 2009, The Vacant Lots have released singles with Mexican Summer and Reverberation Appreciation Society, collaborated on their debut album ‘Departure’ with Spacemen 3’s Sonic Boom, their second album ‘Endless Night’ with Alan Vega, and most recently on their two EPs, ‘Berlin’ and ‘Exit’, with Brian Jonestown Massacre’s Anton Newcombe at his studio in Berlin. The group has toured with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Suicide, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Dean Wareham (Galaxie 500), The Dandy Warhols, and Spectrum.
