Earlier this year Helsinki psych-rockers Black Lizard unleashed their third full-length in a now decade-long career. Celebration Of A New Dawn, released on London label Fuzz Club, saw the four-piece deal in a spectral garage-psych sound that calls on the scuzzy snarl of the finest Nuggets cuts and the swirling, neo-psychedelic march of the early 90s.
Having spent the latest couple of months performing the album at various spots in their homeland, and off the back of their addition to the stacked Fuzz Club Eindhoven 2018 line-up (alongside The Black Angels, APTBS and Spectrum), Black Lizard have now unveiled a video for ‘Black Shadow’, the penultimate track from Celebration Of A New Dawn. Set to distorted VHS footage the track is a piece of expansive, appropriately-shadowy psych-rock that’s driven by a rolling, sluggish rhythm section and echoing vocals.
Since forming back in 2008, Black Lizard have been busy leading the charge in the ever-fruitful Scandinavian underground with a relentless gig schedule and a constant stream of releases. They’ve collaborated with the likes of Anton Newcombe and Sonic Boom (Spacemen 3/Spectrum) and toured Europe several times, appearing at a number of festivals including Great Escape and sharing the stage with the likes of Brian Jonestown Massacre, DIIV, The Men, The Horrors, Allah-Las and Veronica Falls.
Celebration Of A New Dawn follows Black Lizards self-titled debut album (2013) which was recorded by Anton Newcombe and mixed by Sonic Boom, and their highly-praised 2015 sophomore effort, Solarize. The band is comprised of Paltsa-Kai Salama (vocals, guitar), Joni Seppanen (guitar), Lauri Lyttinen (bass) and Onni Nieminen (drums, percussion).
